A new grand chief and deputy grand chiefs are being elected for Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) this week.
The 42nd Annual Keewaywin Conference is being held in Constance Lake First Nation from Aug. 13 to 15. The full agenda for the assembly will be available tomorrow (Tuesday, Aug. 13) after it's approved by the chiefs.
The new executive council will be elected for a three-year term on Wednesday.
The candidates for grand chief are incumbent Alvin Fiddler from Muskrat Dam First Nation, Pauline Penena Mickelson from Sachigo Lake First Nation, and Bobby A. Narcisse from Aroland First Nation. One grand chief will be elected.
Three deputy grand chiefs will be elected. The candidates are Anna Betty Achneepineskum from Marten Falls First Nation, Mike Metatawabin from Fort Albany. First Nation, and Bobby A. Narcisse from Aroland First Nation.
