Building permits down in Centre Wellington in 2023

The number of residential building permits issued were down significantly compared to 2022

CENTRE WELLINGTON – Centre Wellington saw less permits issued for residential permits in 2023, which reflected in the total number of building permits issued dropping by more than a quarter compared to 2022. 

End of the year building permit activity reports provided by the Township of Centre Wellington show there were a total of 884 building permits issued in 2023 with a total construction value over $207 million. 

There were 1213 issued in 2022 for a value over $226 million. 

Permits for residential buildings represented the biggest difference between the two years with 232 of this permit type issued in 2023. Meanwhile 439 were issued in 2022. 

Other significant differences include 42 permits issued for recreational/trailers in 2023 compared to 120 in 2022 and 32 permits for garage and carports in 2023 compared to 64 in 2022. 

Permits issued for renovations, additions and decks, which made up the highest percentage of permits issued in 2023, remained consistent with 255 of these permits issued in 2023, one less than in 2022.
